Jamuna 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2005 When terror hit America from the skies on 9/11, the world changed forever. It was the first time in its history that America's mainland had come under attack. Not even during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1945 had Americans suffered so much death and destruction. With Al-Qaeda and Middle East-bred terrorists suspected behind 9/11, Bush's America responded by destroying the Taliban in Afghanistan. On the home turf, the easy-going American suddenly became paranoid and started suspecting every `brown' to be a potential terrorist. The first to become victim of this suspicion were American Sikhs who were mistaken for Muslims because of their beards and turbans and attacked. Even celebrities with Muslim 'tag' names were subjected humiliating searches. Imran Khan and Kamal Hassan are two such examples. Today, every visitor to the US is subjected finger-printing, frisking, body -- and shoe -- search. Tabs are kept on their movement. Pre-9/11 world is a bygone era.
