Recommended Posts

QUOTE (Rohit Shahi @ Aug 2 2003, 11:42 PM)
Dear Friends !

What do you think about English Oldies (songs)? Me, I mostly used to hear an English Oldies of 60's, 70's and 80's. My favorite century singers are Bob Marley (Buffalo Soldier fame)

Buffalo Soldier by Bob Marley.

Buffalo Soldier, Dreadlock Rasta

There was a Buffalo Soldier in the heart of America,

Stolen from Africa, brought to America,

Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival.

I mean it, when I analyze the stench -

To me it makes a lot of sense

How the Dreadlock Rasta was the Buffalo Soldier,

And he was taken from Africa, brought to America,

Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival.

Said he was a Buffalo Soldier, Dreadlock Rasta

Buffalo Soldier in the heart of America.

If you know your history,

Then you would know where you coming from,

Then you wouldn't have to ask me,

Who the 'eck do I think I am.

I'm just a Buffalo Soldier in the heart of America,

Stolen from Africa, brought to America,

Said he was fighting on arrival, fighting for survival

Said he was a Buffalo Soldier win the war for America.

Dreadie, woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,

Woy yoy yoy yoy, yoy yoy-yoy yoy

Woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,

Woy yoy yoy yoy, yoy yoy-yoy yoy

Buffalo Soldier troddin' through the land, wo-ho-ooh!

Said he wanna ran, then you wanna hand,

Troddin' through the land, yea-hea, yea-ea.

Said he was a Buffalo Soldier win the war for America

Buffalo Soldier, Dreadlock Rasta,

Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival

Driven from the mainland to the heart of the Caribbean.

Singing, woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,

Woy yoy yoy yoy, yoy yoy-yoy yoy

Woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,

Woy yoy yoy yoy, yoy yoy-yoy yoy

Troddin' through San Juan in the arms of America

Troddin' through Jamaica, a Buffalo Soldier

Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival:

Buffalo Soldier, Dreadlock Rasta.

Woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,

Woy yoy yoy yoy, yoy yoy-yoy yoy

Woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,

Woy yoy yoy yoy, yoy yoy-yoy yoy....!!

My best song is Carpenter's 'Yesterday Once More'.

-----------

Yesterday Once More

Yesterday Once More

When I was young

I'd listened to the radio

Waitin' for my favorite songs

When they played I'd sing along

It made me smile.

Those were such happy times

And not so long ago

How I wondered where they'd gone

But they're back again

Just like a long lost friend

All the songs I loved so well

(*) Every Sha-la-la-la

Every Wo-wo-wo

Still shines

Every shing-a-ling-a-ling

That they're starting to sing's

So fine

When they get to the part

Where he's breakin' her heart

It can really make me cry

Just like before

It's yesterday once more

Lookin' back on how it was

In years gone by

And the good times that I had

Makes today seem rather sad

So much has changed

It was songs of love that

I would sing to then

And I'd memorize each word

Those old melodies

Still sound so good to me

As they melt the years away

Repeat........

All my best memories

Come back clearly to me

Some can even make me cry

Just like before

It's yesterday once more

Repeat ...........

Take Me Home, Country Roads By - John Denver in 1973 A.D. This song is available in the Album Take Me Home Country Roads & O (1973)

Song:

Almost heaven, West Virginia

Blue Ridge Mountains

Shenandoah River -

Life is old there

Older than the trees

Younger than the mountains

GrowinЎЇ like a breeze

Country Roads, take me home

To the place I belong

West Virginia, mountain momma

Take me home, country roads

All my memories gathered Ў®round her

MinerЎЇs lady, stranger to blue water

Dark and dusty, painted on the sky

Misty taste of moonshine

Teardrops in my eye

Country Roads, take me home

To the place I belong

West Virginia, mountain momma

Take me home, country roads

I hear her voice

In the morninЎЇ hour she calls me

The radio reminds me of my home far away

And drivinЎЇ down the road I get a feelinЎЇ

That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Country Roads, take me home

To the place I belong

West Virginia, mountain momma

Take me home, country roads

Country Roads, take me home

To the place I belong

West Virginia, mountain momma

Take me home, country roads

Take me home, now country roads

Take me home, now country roads

Words and Music by Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert and John Denver.

Shahi ji,

Hami school ma padhda gaune English geet ke re? Tyo pani gajab famous thiyo ni tyo bela ma, maile ta bhulechhu yar! Please! remind me.

Thank you Vidur Jee for reminding to me that, here is the song:

Song name is Zimbabwe and sung by Bob Marley.

Every man gotta right to decide his own destiny,

And in this judgement there is no partiality.

So arm in arms, with arms, we'll fight this little struggle,

'Cause that's the only way we can overcome our little trouble.

Brother, you're right, you're right,

You're right, you're right, you're so right!

We gon' fight (we gon' fight), we'll have to fight (we gon' fight),

We gonna fight (we gon' fight), fight for our rights!

Natty Dread it in-a (Zimbabwe);

Set it up in (Zimbabwe);

Mash it up-a in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);

Africans a-liberate (Zimbabwe), yeah.

No more internal power struggle;

We come together to overcome the little trouble.

Soon we'll find out who is the real revolutionary,

'Cause I don't want my people to be contrary.

And, brother, you're right, you're right,

You're right, you're right, you're so right!

We'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight), we gonna fight (we gon' fight)

We'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight), fighting for our rights!

Mash it up in-a (Zimbabwe);

Natty trash it in-a (Zimbabwe);

Africans a-liberate Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);

I'n'I a-liberate Zimbabwe.

(Brother, you're right,) you're right,

You're right, you're right, you're so right!

We gon' fight (we gon' fight), we'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight),

We gonna fight (we gon' fight), fighting for our rights!

To divide and rule could only tear us apart;

In everyman chest, mm - there beats a heart.

So soon we'll find out who is the real revolutionaries;

And I don't want my people to be tricked by mercenaries.

Brother, you're right, you're right,

You're right, you're right, you're so right!

We'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight), we gonna fight (we gon' fight),

We'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight), fighting for our rights!

Natty trash it in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);

Mash it up in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);

Set it up in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);

Africans a-liberate Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);

Africans a-liberate Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);

Natty dub it in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe).

Set it up in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);

Africans a-liberate Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);

Every man got a right to decide his own destiny.

I have many favs English songs that I usually listen and sing when I am on my own. I really enjoy many songs by Queen, Eric Clapton, G n' R, Bad Company, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Nirvana and many more....

These three songs I have posted here are really really good songs!

ERIC CLAPTON: Tears In Heaven

Would you know my name

if I saw you in heaven ?

Would you feel the same

if I saw you in heaven ?

I must be strong and carry on

'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven ...

Would you hold my hand

if I saw you in heaven ?

Would you help me stand

if I saw you in heaven ?

I'll find my way through night and day

'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven ...

Time can bring you down , time can bend your knees

Time can break your heart , have you begging please ...

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure

And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven ...

Would you know my name

if I saw you in heaven ?

Would you feel the same

if I saw you in heaven ?

I must be strong and carry on

'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven ...

PINK FLOYD: Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)

We don't need no education

We don't need no thought control

No dark sarcasm in the classroom

Teachers leave the kids alone

Hey teacher leave us kids alone

All in all it's just another brick in the wall

All in all you're just another brick in the wall

[chorus at end by pupils from the Fourth Form Music Class Islington Green School, London]

We don't need no education

We don't need no thought control

No dark sarcasm in the classroom

Teachers leave the kids alone

Hey teacher leave us kids alone

All in all you're just another brick in the wall

All in all you're just another brick in the wall

BAD COMPANY: Shooting Star

Johnny was a schoolboy

When he heard his first Beatles song

Love Me Do I think it was

And from there it didn't take him long

Got himself a guitar

Used to play every night

Now he's in a rock and roll outfit

and everything's all right

Don't ya know

Johnny told his mama

Hey, Mama, I'm going away

I'm gonna hit the big time

Gonna be a big star someday

Momma came to the door

With a teardrop in her eye

Johnny said "Don't cry Momma,

Smile and wave goodbye."

Don't you know

(chorus)

Don't you know

That you are a shooting star,..(don't you know, don't you know)

Don't you know that you are

A Shooting Star

And all the world will love you

Just as long..as long as you are?

Johnny made a record

Went straight up to number one

Suddenly everyone loved to hear him sing his song

Watching the world go by

Surprising it goes so fast

Johnny looked around him

And said "Well I made the big time at last."

(chorus) a shooting star....

Johnny died one night

Died in his bed

Bottle of whiskey, sleeping tablets

By his head

Johnny's life passed him

by like a warm summer day

If you listen to the wind

You can still hear him play

Don't you know...

Classic- sinatra

Lyrics:

She gets too hungry for dinner at eight

She likes the theater and never comes late

She never bothers with people she'd hate

That's why the lady is a tramp

Doesn't like crap games with barons or earls

Won't go to Harlem in ermine and pearls

Won't dish the dirt with the rest of the girls

That's why the lady is a tramp

She likes the free, fresh wind in her hair

Life without care

She's broke, and it's *"oke"*

Hates California, it's cold and it's damp

That's why the lady is a tramp

She gets too hungry to wait for dinner at eight

She loves the theater but never comes late

She'd never bother with people she'd hate

That's why the lady is a tramp

She'll have no crap games with sharpies and frauds

And she won't go to Harlem in Lincolns or Fords

And she won't dish the dirt with the rest of the broads

That's why the lady is a tramp

She'd love the free, fresh wind in her hair

Life without care

She's broke, but it's *"oke"*

Hates California, it's so cold and so damp

That's why the lady

That's why the lady

That's why the lady is a tramp
