MohanTara 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 (edited) I watched this movie online few days ago n simply loved it, especially abt the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, n then of their adventures together on the road. It really opened my eyes 2 be grateful 4 all the things i have. Honestly i never thought of a day i have 2 starve or worry that my family or loved ones be killed in some kinda or clashes. It was a heart wrenching experience 2 watch so many scenes.. like ophaned, homeless n drenched on the streets... n whereby they had 2 grow up so fast, deprived of the innocent childhood. Ok it's also up for 10 Oscars nomination. Good luck 2 them Edited February 3, 2009 by MohanTara
thirdpole 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I also watched it and liked it. It was not new masala as I have seen so many bollywood movies that has story of rag to riches. It was british director who directed movie with fairly new concep otherwise in rag to riches movie normally guy would be gangster and make millions while in this movie he make millions by just using his brain and experience he gone trough. Anil Kapoor giving him hint of wrong answer and he is not chosing what Anil Kapoor hinted was bit odd thing but of course he is genius and was right to think differently. I liked it, of course it deserve oscar.
GNOME 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 No offense to this movie and movie lovers but I don't think this movie deserve an OSCAR. I also liked the movie but I have seen better movies which deserve OSCAR than this one. The only reason people are talking abt this movie is because it was make by British director. If any of bollywood director had made that film, it would have been classed as an Art Movie and would have tanked at Box Office. Just to remind you, during screening of this movie in Toronto Film festival, all the western people loved this movie but didn't get good response from Asian audience. Because the situations and the scenes shown in the movie are nothing new to the Asian viewers. They see them everyday in their real life , they hear about it everyday. Beside there must be hundreds of movie already made on these kinds of subjects. But the West loves to see Asians as a wasteland, filled with horror stories of exploitation and degradation. Most of them have been never exposed to those situations so they find it intriguing and exciting. I am not saying this is a bad movie, I just think this movie doesn't deserve an OSCAR. E major 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 I quite agree with GNOME. Why this movie won prizes? because its the movie about dark side of eastern world explored to western world. Make a movie that shows the dark side of islam, sure it will hit the western audience. For us, there is nothing new in that movie, so we take it as a normal story, but for western society its difference. Just to take an example of the scence, when the Jamal get hit by an Indian person who knows that some crap is going behind when Foreign Tourist's vechile part get stolen. See the perspective of people form different society. Realted to topic but different story, people in Tokyo and America treats there dog or other pet almost as same as human being. If you show them some documentary how in our part we treat dogs or other animals ... it will be a big hit. I think other nominate movies were better too (perhaps becuase I am not western), but SDM won all, becuase it was judged Through different eyes.
