  1. Resume Nightmares Just out of College, don’t know how to draft your resume. Drafting a resume for a fresher can be a nightmare, especially when you know that you have nothing to show in your work-experience column. At the same time you know that having no experience means having no job. But one always starts with a no experience resume, right!!! Don’t worry there are vacancies and organisation still out there looking for fresher. But you need to be careful in designing your resume. The first impression is the last impression and as you know this is the first thing that your prospective employers will be looking at. A prospective employer will often make a snap judgment the second they read it and even the most qualified people on the planet can find themselves rejected if the resume fails to come up to scratch. So how can you give yours the edge? You will need to just careful to draft the resume in the most presentable and legible manner. Things to remember: Your resume must present your information quickly, clearly, and in a way that makes your experience relevant to the position in question. That means condensing your information down to its most powerful form. Here are some things that you need to remember while drafting your resume: The content of your resume should have:  Objective o Concentrating on your immediate career goals  Work Experience o Your career history- in reverse chronological order over the past 10 years - with brief description of your responsibilities and achievements.  Educational Qualification o Your qualifications again - in reverse chronological order.  Professional Skills o The trainings that you have taken to improve on your skills.  Personal Details You should keep in mind some of these points:  Keep it short - a ten page life history will probably head straight for the bin.  Headlines only. The CV is a marketing document. Use it to promote the highlights of your career.  Keep it simple. Resist the temptation to use jargon - the recruiter may not understand them.  Do not make spelling mistakes. If your spelling is questionable use a spellchecker or get a friend to read it through.  Pay attention to layout - make it eye-catching by good use of headings and borders.  Put the most important information first. Leave all the boring stuff like your contact details to the end.  Don't tell lies. Employers are wising up to the fact that some people add on the odd qualification and are more likely to check.  Market yourself positively. Demonstrate your skills with short examples of your achievements.  Put a short statement up front of no more than one paragraph describing in as few words as possible your most marketable skills and abilities.  Accompany it with a tailored letter saying why you think your skills and abilities match the job for which you are applying.  Don’t think that larger fonts and capitalizing the text will highlight every point. You need to make it attractive not with decoration but with simplicity.  Use lines to separate sections of your resume.  Use similar formats for similar content.  Use levels of headings for different headings

If so, you or your friend must be thinking that the employer is not going through the resumes and is employing people whom he knows.That may, of course be the case sometimes. Generally it is a misconception. The real villain in the case maybe the biodata you have sent. Instead of presenting a positive picture of the candidate it may have the opposite effect if it is not written properly. A biodata which is not written well shows a confused mind. Just as a first impression is important in judging a person, a resume is also your first impression to the employer. Make your impression a good one. Writing out a good resume is not a tough job. Just that the facts have to present properly in a systematic order. The person applying for a job also has to be clear in his mind as to the kind of job he is looking for. Let us go through the procedure of writing a biodata step by step. First and foremost is the name of the candidate, which should be there. Next if the position you have applied for. Here one can give a few options in fields, which are interrelated e.g., sales, marketing, and advertising. However one has to be careful not to give combinations like marketing, accounts, and human resources together as these fields are totally unrelated. This conveys the impression that the candidate is very confused, and unsure of his career goals. Remember when you write out your resume you are not only applying for a job, you are planning a career path for yourself. Next will come the previous jobs in reverse chronological order i.e. starting with the last job first. Here one has to mention the time period spent in the organisation, the kind of work handled and achievements, if any. After the experience come the educational qualifications. Again here we have to start writing from the highest degree achieved to the S.LC. This can also be given in a table form with the name of the institution, the year of passing out, the subjects studied and the percentage achieved. Any outstanding achievements can also be mentioned. Last but not the least will come the personnel details. Here you can mention the name of the father or guardian. The local and permanent address, contact phone numbers, email address, hobbies and languages known. This way you have a biodata, which gives a true picture of you and your personality. I am sure with your resume written nicely you will not have any problem and will get many calls for an interview. Your resume would have made a positive impression !
